Statement on the Terrorist Attack in Kerman

The Islamic Republic of Iran has been a target of terror over the years including by the Iranian groups MKO, Jeysh – ul- Adl, ASMLA and KDP, as well as international terrorist groups ISIS and others.

As recently as one month ago Iran lost 12 members of its police officers to an act of terror claimed by Jeysh-ul-Adl in the southeastern city of Rask. The country had not recovered from that shock when, on Wednesday January 3, 2024, two deadly explosions in Kerman left 95 innocent civilians martyred and over 200 injured, the deadliest terror attack in the country’s history.

Terrorism is a threat to lives and a challenge to peace and security in many parts of the world, including in Iran, it is therefore, unacceptable to apply different criteria by removing a known terrorist group from terror list, or to focus only on fighting some terrorist organizations while turning a blind eye and in some cases harbouring and financing terrorists that target others.

Terrorism knows no bounds, therefore, there must be no double standards and selectivity in countering it. It is also incumbent on all responsible nations and individuals across the globe to be unequivocal in their condemnation of terrorism regardless of its forms, and places it occurs.
